Thaipusam in Malaysia
Thousands of Hindus gather to participate in the annual Thaipusam festival dedicated to Lord Murugan. During Thaipusam day, devotees will fulfilled their vows by carrying 'kavadi (bearers had spikes pierced into their bodies) or pots of milk as offering to Lord Murugan. The devotees will make the arduous climbing up the 272 steps leading up to the temple cave and deposited at the feet of the deity to purify themselves.
